About Me
In today’s digital age graphic design is essential when it comes to impacting society. Studies show that ‘visual appeal can be assessed in about 50 milliseconds’ meaning that creating a visual narrative for global issues is imperative for change to happen. I’m extremely eager to study this course at degree level because I find that I can take my own creative control of the work I produce and there are infinite possibilities of what you can create when it comes to a design course. Taking my education further and going to university to study graphics will be extremely beneficial as it will open the door into the industry of design.
My current studies have taught me many transferable skills for a graphic design degree. In economics, I learn about current world affairs and the state of the economy which can be linked to graphic design as it helps me better understand the topics that I’m turning into visual campaigns. Additionally, I’m able to display economic data and statistics through infographics to capture the audience’s attention. This also ties in with psychology, as graphic design creates an optic awareness of issues in day to day life. The human brain is said to process visual information 60,000 times faster than if you were to read it, meaning that using graphics to convey information is proven to be more effective for the consumer.

In addition to my current studies, I have designed green party election posters for the mock election that my college ran in 2019. Recently, I created a Black Lives Matter campaign which highlights the issues surrounding the subject and the drastic measures that need to take place in order for the discrimination against the Black community to end. One of my favourite things about graphic design is that you are able to convey values and ideas through visual design. Furthermore, I’m part of my school’s design programme called ‘The Collective’ in which we work with other companies and promote important ideas to my local community, in this I am part of the graphic design team. This has strengthened my inclination to pursue a career in graphic design as it has given me a taste of what I can do after university with this forever evolving industry.

The Collective
The collective is the design team I am a part of at Holy Cross. We are currently doing our 2020 publication which is highlighting the issues around global warming and climate issues. I have completed this piece which will feature in the publication, I see it as a warning for what our sea life could look like if we don't make change.
